Earthquake strikes central Italy
North of Florence, central Italy saw an earthquake on Monday morning, sending people into the streets.
Although there was no immediate damage, several schools were closed out of an abundance of caution, and trains were delayed while the railway lines were inspected.
The earthquake, which had its epicentre close to Marradi, a village of about 3,000 people located in the province of Florence within the Apennine mountain range, was recorded by Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) at 4.8 on the Richter scale.
According to information, the earthquake happened at 5:10 am (0310 GMT).
Firefighters confirmed the event on X, formerly Twitter, writing that scared locals had been contacting 911 but "no personal injuries have been reported at this time."
Tommaso Triberti, the mayor of Marradi, told Rainews24 that firefighters were inspecting private residences.
"There is a great deal of worry. "Everyone is outside, but no specific damage has been reported," he said.
