I have no regrets about seeking office. Funke Akindele speaks out about the election's defeat

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and incumbent governor, defeated Akindele and her principal, Abdul-Azeez Adediran alias Jandor.

"It has been a fantastic and insightful experience on my path to the ballot, and I must say, it was an absolute learning curve for me," she said on her Instagram page on Monday. Several things have been discovered and undiscovered. Sincerely, I have no regrets about taking the risky decision to run for government.

"So, I want to express my gratitude to the residents of Lagos State for having faith in me and backing my decision to run for government. I learned of all the locations where people backed me and confronted those who sought to defame me, and I saw every word of support both online and offline.

“I remember every warm welcome during our campaign tour and the faith you all showed in me. The elections might not have panned out in the way we hoped, but it was an honourable run for us. We fought a good fight indeed, as a matter of fact.

“I also want to encourage all who mean well for the Nation and the state of Lagos not to give up. I understand that some of us are beginning to develop some sort of apathy toward the system, however, if we do not speak, we will never be heard. I’m glad that we could at least speak up.

“Thank you once again Lagos, for showing your daughter support. As I consider my next moves in life, I will continue prioritizing the good of the people and the integrity of my position as an advocate for the people. Eko oni baje!”

The actress removed all political and PDP-related posts from her Instagram page after the election's outcome.

The posts that were accessible on her page of 15.7 million followers, according to checks done by our correspondent on Monday, were those promoting her movie and other private ones.
