Here's all we know so far about Stella Damasus' latest film, 'The Scar.'
Stella Damasus stars in the upcoming film The Scar, which will be released in Nigerian theaters later this month.
The Scar is the narrative of a woman, played by Damasus, whose marriage is strained by the consequences of forced genital mutilation performed on her many years ago. She must now overcome her past while fighting to save her family.
The romance drama, produced by Ella Emefiele, a Nigerian filmmaker resident in the United States, aims to educate its viewers on the impacts, dangers, and remedies to the gripping threat of female genital mutilation.
The film, directed by Robert Peters, also stars Joseph Benjamin, Mercy Macjoe, Collins John Emefiele, and Ella Emefiele.
The Scar will be released in Nigerian theaters on October 6, 2023, and afterwards in the United States of America.
Ella discusses the motivations behind her pursuit and production of this film in an exclusive interview with Shock Ng. "During my practice in Nigeria, I came across various women, the majority of whom were circumcised," she explained. I used to own a medical facility. The majority of the ladies confided in me about the difficulties they faced as a result of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)."
She also confessed that at some point, someone close to her had opened up about the horrors of the treatment she had undergone. "When I arrived in the state, I discovered a procedure called clitoroplasty (FGM reconstruction)."
Following the treatment, a circumcised clitoris might grow again, allowing the victim to regain their groove. "I then contacted my friend and obtained her permission to publish her story," she explained.
The Scar is an intriguing title to keep on your calendars for October as it helps to raise awareness of the difficulties affecting women in our beloved Nigeria.
