JOS ATTACK: One is detained in connection with the Jos attack on FRSC employees.
On Friday, the police in Plateau State announced the arrest of one suspect in the state's attack on FRSC employees.
A tanker explosion incident on Thursday at the Bauchi Road intersection claimed the lives of numerous people. The affected authorities were reportedly on a rescue mission when a mob attacked them and set one of their working vehicles on fire.
Alabo Alfred, the state police spokesperson, announced the suspect's arrest in a statement on Friday. He also stated that the number of fatalities from the tanker explosion had climbed from 10 to 13.
The statement read, "Further investigation following Thursday's incident at the Bauchi Road junction where a tanker truck loaded with petroleum product lost brake control and went up in flames at 1:30 pm revealed that "28 shops, 8 motor vehicles/cars, 6 tricycles, and 2 motorcycles while 13 unidentified persons were burnt beyond recognition which is an increase from what was reported in our earlier release.
"The deceased were interred by JNI in accordance with Islamic customs, and 10 injured people were transported to various hospitals for treatment.
"Additional developments also showed that a horde of irate people, numbering in the hundreds, attacked the FRSC personnel and set their operational vehicle, bearing the registration number AO1 783 RS, on fire. During this incident, one member of the FRSC crew suffered a forehead injury. There is just one suspect in custody.
Simon Lalong, the state's governor, and Caleb Mutfwang, the governor-elect, have both expressed their sorrow over the catastrophe that killed people and destroyed their homes.
