On winning the election, Buhari congratulates Ododo and Uzodimma.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Senator Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress and Usman Ododo of Kogi state on their victories in the elections held last Saturday.
Uzodimma's reelection was approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission since she had won in each of the state's 27 local government districts.
With 540,008 votes overall, the incumbent governor secured a second term in office, according to the commission.
With 446,237 votes, the electoral body of Kogi pronounced APC candidate Usman Ododo the victor of the race.
The state Returning Officer, Prof. Johnson Urama, revealed the results late on Sunday night. He reported that Ododo received 259,052 votes, closely followed by Social Democratic Party candidate Muri Ajaka.
Adejo Okeme of the LP received 567 votes, Dino Melaye of the PDP 46,362; and Leke Bejide of the African Democratic Party 21,891.
In a Monday statement, Buhari thanked the residents of the two states for reiterating their support for the largest political party in the country, Garba Shehu's spokesperson said.
In particular, the party leaders and laborers who put in endless effort to secure the election of Senator Hope Uzodinma for a second term in Imo and Usman Ododo as the new governor of Kogi state were thanked by the former president. A portion of the statement said, "My best wishes to them for their next tenure."
