Sego: How Sanwo-Olu stopped the battle between Lagos transporters
Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, also referred to as MC Oluomo, recently resigned from his role as Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers' Lagos State chapter. This has exposed a power struggle that could have developed into a full-fledged conflict between Lagos' transport unions.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu orchestrated a resolution between important parties in an astute attempt to head off this festering dispute, which resulted in a substantial overhaul of the union's leadership.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's prompt action was instrumental in reducing the tension inside the NURTW in Lagos.
On January 1, 2024, the governor organized a meeting in the Government House, Alausa, Ikeja, with the assistance of important authorities such Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, Commissioner for Transportation Sola Giwa, and other well-known individuals.
MC Oluomo formally said during this meeting that he was going to step down as Chairman. According to reports, MC Oluom first objected to stepping down from the Lagos leadership role due to the union's profitable business in the state.
There was a noticeable change in leadership when MC Oluomo declared he would hand over control to Mustapha Adekunle, also referred to as Seego, who is the union's current treasurer in the state. Clothed in traditional white native garb, MC Oluomo declared that he would be willing to run for NURTW President. The amendments would be implemented by the end of January 2024.
Opinion leaders in Lagos, particularly Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, who reportedly personally advised Oluomo to resign or face impending humiliation from his supporters, were among the factors reported to have exerted pressure on MC Oluomo to resign.
