Subsidy: Hoard fuel, lose C of O, Kwara gov warns marketers
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, has warned oil marketers to avoid causing unnecessary hardship to citizens by creating fake fuel scarcity in the state and abroad.
On Tuesday, AbdulRazaq remarked in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, that the current scenario of not providing petrol to motorists without the government raising the price was completely uncalled for. He instructed fuel marketers to quickly release fuel to the public under the standard price structure because they had purchased what they had at subsidized rates.
"Creating artificial scarcity amounts to an intentional misrepresentation of President Bola Tinubu's statement on fuel subsidies." The people should not be subjected to any suffering.
"The Governor urges marketers to refrain from engaging in any economic sabotage of the people." Hoarding petroleum purchased at reduced costs and causing panic in the state is opportunistic and will not be tolerated.Mr. Kayode Alabi, His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, will lead a task team to ensure that no petroleum marketer causes undue hardship to Kwara State inhabitants.
"Fuel stations should be aware that the task force will enter their pits." Filling stations that are found to be stockpiling fuel will have their Certificate of Occupancy removed, among other punishments."
Most petrol stations in the state's Ilorin area have shuttered their doors and refused to sell fuel to motorists since President Bola Tinubu indicated during his inauguration on Monday that fuel subsidies will not be maintained by his administration.
