Tension as soldiers on a peacekeeping deployment in Nasarawa are killed by bandits

On February 1, 2024, unidentified gunmen murdered three people and destroyed properties worth millions of naira in the Katapka and Okudu communities in Nasarawa State. The Nigerian Army was deployed to maintain law and order in the area, but an ambush on military personnel led to the deaths of three soldiers and two vigilantes. The Chairman of Toto LGA, Abdullahi Aliyu-Tashas, described the killing of the soldiers as unfortunate. The state government has taken over the situation and is making efforts to handle the situation, with more security operatives deployed to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

The Bassa Cultural Development Union, an ethnic group in the area, has called on the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, to urgently investigate the attacks on the Katakpa community in the Umaisha District of Toto LGA. The group has called on the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. A.A. Sule, to use his office to catch the perpetrators of these criminal attacks so that peace can return to the Toto Local Government Area. The Bassa community of Nasarawa State is deeply pained by the loss of life and property, and they are asking for God's fortitude to bear their loss.
