But for other people, the appeal of politics has proven to be too great to ignore, inspiring them to enter the fray and seek for public office. Some of us have succeeded in this endeavor, but others have not been as fortunate.

In this essay, we'll examine five well-known Nigerian figures who, despite their popularity, failed to win elections:

The Nigerian actor and singer has lost two straight elections. On the Modern Democratic Party's slate, he sought election to the House of Representatives in Lagos State's Eti-Osa District in 2019. (MDP). Despite being viewed as a formidable candidate, Musiliu Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ultimately won the election.

He ran for the same position again in 2023 but lost to Labour Party candidate Thadeus Attah.

One of the famous people who failed to win an election was the well-known actress, also known as Jenifa. Under the aegis of the People's Democratic Party, she ran for the position of Deputy Governor of Lagos State (PDP).

She lost against the current governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of the All Progressives Congress, in her effort to represent the state, though (APC).

This year, the Nigerian actor best known for his part in the television series "The Johnsons" ran for office as a representative of the Labour Party in the Surulere I constituency of Lagos State (LP). He tried to get the seat, but he was unsuccessful. He was defeated by the incumbent, Desmond Elliott of the APC, a well-known figure.

The singer-songwriter ran in 2015 for a position in the House of Representatives to represent Oyo State's Ogbomosho North/South/Oriire Federal Constituency. Regrettably, he was defeated in the Oyo State primary by a strong rival, Prince Akeem Oyewumi of the All Progressives Congress party, who is the son of the Soun of Ogbomoso.

Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw also failed to win the Peoples Democratic Party (PDPnomination )'s to represent the Calabar South Federal Constituency in the state's primary election in 2014.

She addressed her defeat gracefully on Twitter after the primary election, acknowledging that it was free and fair and congratulating the victor.
