On Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Nigeria convened a brief hearing in the matter of the Central Bank of Nigeria's naira swap program (CBN).
Governors Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, as well as a retinue of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, were present in court today for the hearing.

Governor Bello told newsmen that he and El-Rufai were present to guarantee that justice is served for the masses who are now bearing the brunt of the policies after the case had been postponed to Wednesday, February 22 for the hearing of the consolidated claims by 10 states.

The governor argued that the reason they were in court today was because Nigerians were suffering as a result of the CBN's confusing cashless versus currency makeover strategy.
In addition, Governor Bello stated that the order issued by the honorable justices is believed to remain in effect until Wednesday, February 22, when the case will be heard.

He made this statement in response to a court injunction that temporarily prevents the CBN from making the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes legal money as of the deadline of February 10.

On behalf of his colleagues, Bello asked Nigerians to preserve peace, law, and order, stating that by killing one another, nothing would be accomplished in terms of modifying the policies to better benefit all parties and alleviate the misery currently being experienced.

He believed that this was only a short-term setback for Nigerians. He went on to say that the governors are simply criticizing how the Buhari-led government is implementing its restructuring strategy, not opposing it altogether.
In order to guarantee that Nigerians have a life and can utilize their money as they see appropriate, according to Governor Bello, the implementation of the program is being questioned.

The governor emphasized that Nigerians could decide how to retain their money, but added that no one should be forced to create a bank account against their will.

In order to live freely in society, every Nigerian must have that freedom, the Kogi State governor argued, adding that when the subject was finally resolved, Nigeria would be the sole winner.
