Four weeks after the election, Obi formally files a petition with the tribunal
Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, has formally submitted his petition to the elections tribunal in protest of the results of the election on February 25.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the chief spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, revealed this in a statement.
It is confirmed that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labor Party, has submitted his case to the presidential elections tribunal in Abuja, according to the announcement. The procedure to recover the mandate of the people has begun.
Four weeks after the divisive presidential and National Assembly elections that resulted in Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the new president, Obi filed his petition.
Although Tanko declined to explain why it took his principal so long to file the appeal, a party insider said that the former governor of Anambra State needed enough evidence to support his allegations of widespread fraud, intimidation of voters, and corruption against the election umpire. "You know Obi doesn't like to discuss without first gathering information. Because of this, he took his time before submitting his case to the tribunal," he stated.
Remember Tanko's statement last Tuesday that the LP presidential candidate's attorneys were making headway with their examination of electoral data after being given access to extract some pertinent information from the documents provided.
