In Maiduguri, Zulum orders the destruction of brothels and criminal dens.
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum ordered the demolition of illegal brothels and criminal dens infamous for prostitution, gangsterism, and other unlawful activities across the Maiduguri capital within 72 hours on Tuesday, October 17.
Although it was unclear whose organizations, Borno Urban Development Agency or Borno Geographical Information Service, would carry out the destruction, he delivered the order during a visit to one of such areas in the capital, 'Bayan Quarters,' a neighborhood near railway employee quarters.
Gangsters, criminal activity, and the use of juveniles for commercial sex activities are all prevalent in the area.
The governor voiced concern about the rise in criminal activities related with these illegal brothels and criminal dens, such as prostitution, drug trafficking, and other unlawful activities.
He stated that these actions not only endanger the state's security but also promote social vices that harm community well-being and the dignity of the persons involved. While the village, which houses criminals and minor girls for commercial sex acts, would be razed in 72 hours, the illegal brothels will have 12 hours to depart.
"The government has been fully informed of the activities taking place here; this settlement is entirely illegal." People are murdered here, and the area serves as a breeding ground for rebels. As a result, I've directed that everyone leave the area," Zulum stated.
