In Zamfara, bandits kidnap a recently married couple
On Sunday night, bandits raided Madabanciya village in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State, kidnapping a husband and wife who had recently tied the knot.
Ibrahim Sani, a local, stated that the bandits left their motorcycles outside the village and entered on foot on Sunday night at 11:45 p.m.
According to Sani, the robbers arrived in the area in huge numbers, brandishing sophisticated weapons, and started shooting randomly in an attempt to frighten the locals.
He claimed that the bandits raided homes in quest of food supplies and other valuables.
"They stole a lot of animals, food items, and other valuables," he continued. They brought a newlywed couple to the forest after discovering them while circling the settlement.
Despite the state's security issues, Sani said that no security agent was sent to the community to safeguard people's lives and property.
"If something is not done on time, we will be left with no option but to relocate to other places," he said, pleading with the government to send security people to the region.
At the time this report was sent, ASP Yazid Abubakar, the state police public relations officer, was not reachable for comment.
The state administration has finalized plans to begin deploying its Community Protection Guards on Wednesday of next week.
They would be sent to their assigned areas to support the security forces in their battle against banditry.
Over the past six months, bandits have attacked Zamfara on a regular basis, taking many lives and kidnapping a large number of people.
The state's headquarters, Zurmi town, was raided by bandits in December 2023, resulting in one person's death, two injuries, and the kidnapping of fifteen others. In addition, four settlements in Maru LGA were abandoned in November 2023 after 110 people were abducted by bandits as a result of their failure to pay a well-known bandit kingpin's monthly charge.
