Lekki Conservation Center in Lagos is closed for maintenance.

A statement announcing the closure was made late on Tuesday and shared on the Lagos State Government's official Facebook page.

In reaction to the widely shared video, representatives from the Lagos State Safety Commission and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture reportedly paid a visit to the reserve. The announcement also disclosed that although the bridge's damaged part had been fixed, the reserve will stay closed for "further routine maintenance."

The statement said, "The viral video taken by a worried visitor on a damaged section of the extended canopy walkway within the Lekki Conservation Center has drawn the disapproval of the Lagos State Government."

"During an inspection of the center, representatives from the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, led by Mr. Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, found that the damaged section had already been fixed and returned to normal."The location would stay closed for more regular maintenance, though.

Prof. Mathew Onoja, the Center's Director-General, thanked the State Government for stepping in following the viral video's initial distribution in December.

"The center will continue to prioritize safety and follow the State Government's directives," he declared.

"The Lagos State Government is dedicated to the safety and well-being of citizens at all tourist locations within the state, and the Ministry would take further steps to ensure that all safety standards are met before the center is reopened," the statement reads.

One of Nigeria's most popular tourist destinations is the Lekki Conservation Centre, a nature reserve in Lagos.
