Lagos sues a teenager for calling the fire department in a prank.

On Wednesday, one Uzuokwu Solomon would be charged by the Lagos State Government with crimes involving placing hoax calls to emergency responders.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday night by Ololade Agboola, the deputy director of public affairs for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

Ololade claimed that the crime was penalized in accordance with the 2013 Command and Control Center Law and the Lagos State Fire Service Law.

The statement claims that 18-year-old Solomon called the fire department's emergency line on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 5:35 p.m. from Harmony Estate in the Ajah region of the state and reported a fire emergency inside the estate, causing emergency procedures to be activated and ultimately resulting in the dispatch of the fire trucks from Lekki Phase II Fire service station.
"On arrival, it was found that there had been no fire incident in the estate," it said in part. The Estate security assisted in the investigation that resulted in the arrest of the infamous bogus caller because of the frequency of such calls in the past.

"As a result, the arrested offender is slated to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction at Ogba Magistrate on April 19, 2023, at 9.00 am.

"Interviewing Journalists, The director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, expressed her joy at the culprit's arrest while emphasizing the state government's position on malicious fake calls, which are illegal in Lagos State and subject to punishment. She thinks the arrest and subsequent arraignment will act as a deterrence for other misinformed persons who are prone to placing fictitious calls and misleading emergency personnel.
