Sultan announces Friday to be Eid al-Fitri.
The day of Eid-el-Fitri celebrations will be Friday, April 21, 2023, according to Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
On Thursday night, the Sultan made this declaration over a live broadcast to the entire country from his palace in Sokoto.
"The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee received report from various Moon Sighting across the country confirming the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1444AH on Thursday, April 20, 2023, which is the 29th day of Ramadan 1444AH," the Sultan statement said in part.
Therefore, Friday, April 21, 2023, is the first day of Shawwal 1444 AH, he said.
Sultan Abubakar congratulated them and offered them Allah's guidance and blessings while urged the Muslims to keep praying for the country's peace, progress, and development.
He prayed for God's direction to positively steer the affairs of the nation for each and every newly elected leader across the nation.
