National trials: Amusan wins Itsekiri 100m king

Amusan was competing in Nigeria for the first time since breaking the world record of 12.12s in Oregon last year, and as she eased into the competition's final, she showed the crowd at Benin City's Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium how skilled she is.

The world champion is now on track to defend her crown in Budapest next month after picking up a victory at the Stockholm Diamond League.

Amusan stated that her flawless execution gave her victory in a post-race interview. She was pleased to win again after also taking first place in the previous year's race.

"One thing I always try to do during my races is to target that perfect execution, and that's what I did today (Wednesday)," she claimed.

"I had an injury to begin the season, but I am now healthy enough to race. Prior to the World Championship, I'll keep training for other races. I am not under any time constraints, and I will keep working hard to accomplish my objectives.
Usheoritse Itsekiri won the men's 100-meter final in an impressive 10.02 seconds, beating off Seye Ogunlewe and Alaba Akintola.
In order to win his second national championship, Itsekiri also equaled his 100-meter personal best.

In the women's 100-meter final, Blessing Ogundiran defeated Faith Okwose, the winner of the AFN Golden League, running to a time of 11.50 seconds while Okwose finished in second place with a time of 11.51 seconds. Ese Brume, the long jump champion of Africa, finished third in 11.52 seconds.

With a throw of 21.09 meters, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won the men's shot put competition and successfully defended his title.

Since becoming champion for the first time in 2016, Enekwechi has already won four titles in Nigeria.
