Nnamani tells Ayu to Vacate office immediately

The senator representing Enugu East and former Governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, has demanded Senator Iyorchia Ayu to resign office as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party forthwith adding “his dishonesty and woeful performance are unmitigated”.

According to Nnamani, Ayu’s leadership style has brought unfortunate luck to the PDP.

He said, “Ayu is just an unmitigated disaster. His tenure as leader is a tragedy for the PDP. Showing him the exit door is the only thing left to do.

"How can Ayu be relying on PDP constitution Section 57(7) to seek refuge when he blatantly violated the same section to fire important party members, including myself?

Section 57(7) of the PDP constitution stipulates that “Notwithstanding any other provision relating to discipline, no executive committee at any level, except the National Executive Committee, shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, Deputy Governors or members of the National Assembly.”

Noting that Ayu's case now is "akin to the evil that men do lives with them," he recalled how the Ayu-led NWC used the aforementioned section to expel him when it lacked the authority to do so. Nnamani added that Ayu lacked the moral authority to continue serving as National Chairman for another day.

"He should resign right away if he still has any honor. See the embarrassment he has brought upon the PDP. Nnamani said, "Look at the variety of important party participants Ayu has fired or forced to leave the party."

So as to prevent the party from going extinct entirely, Nnamani pleaded with the NEC and the Board of Trustees to intervene and show Ayu the exit.

The ward executive of the party at Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State announced Ayu's suspension on Sunday through the secretary, Vangeryina Dooyum, on behalf of Kashi Philip, the ward chairman, over alleged anti-party activities.

A High Court in Makurdi, Benue State, issued an interim injunction prohibiting Ayu from misrepresenting himself as the PDP's national chairman while he remained defiant and responded by citing the party's constitution.

The presiding judge, Justice W.I. Kpochi, gave the interim ruling on Monday in the action No. MHC/85/2023 brought at the court by Terhide Utaan with Ayu and the PDP as defendants.
