NNPP situation gets worse as Agbo and others are expelled by the Kwankwaso side

Major Agbo, the party's new acting national chairman, and other prominent members engaged in the NNPP flag bearer's sanction were expelled, according to the faction.

The action comes shortly after Kwankwaso was given a six-month suspension for alleged anti-party conduct by the party's board of trustees.

At a NEC meeting in Lagos earlier on Tuesday, the decision was made to penalize Kwankwaso and select new national officers, including Agbo, acting National Secretary Ogini Olaposi, and 18 others. 

Before the NEC meeting, Agbo and the party's founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, were purportedly suspended since August 24.

However, Aniebonam and Agbo protested the decision, arguing that if any party member deserved to be penalized, it should be the presidential candidate for his alleged dubious recent conduct.

Ladipo Johnson, the party's national auditor, responded by calling Kwankwaso's suspension an unlawful action.

Johnson, who identified himself as the head of the disciplinary panel that later kicked Agbo and his supporters out of the NEC meeting in Abuja, insisted that there was no divide inside the party as had been suggested.

"It is a fake news," he declared. Do you hold NEC meetings in Lagos' Apapa district? Naturally, it isn't the right thing to do. Today, we held the NEC in Abuja.The Agbo you mentioned, along with a few other persons, have been kicked out. Because you are familiar with him as the national publicity secretary, he was the one causing all of this crap.  Who appointed him as acting chairman? Is that how one becomes a chairman, do you think? 

"I don't like how you use the word 'faction.' Is that the process for forming a faction? You can find us there if you visit the NNPP headquarters.

Additionally, Agbo's office has been locked for more than a week, as you shall witness. And he didn't even file a lawsuit against us for what we did. They are the ones you should refer to as a faction because they are the judges themselves. That's because they were put on hold and ultimately kicked out of the party. I'll send you a statement about the recent NEC.

The statement, which was made available to The PUNCH on Tuesday night, stated that a NEC meeting did in fact take place in Abija where decisions were made about a new party logo, constitutional amendments, and the alleged expulsion of Agbo. 

It stated, in part, "Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, Agbo Major, and several others were ejected from the party at the National Executive Committee meeting of the NNPP held in Abuja today, August 29.

"The NEC also made a number of additional motions including the party's logo, the amendment of the bylaws, the approval of the caretaker committees for each state, and the suspension of two articles in the NNPP 2022 constitution.

The conference was attended by numerous people, including the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Engr. Buba Galadima, the National Chairman, Distinguished Senator Kawu Ismaila, and the Executive Governor of Kano State.

"NEC noticed that several suspended (now expelled) individuals allegedly convened a Board of Trustees meeting this morning in Apapa, Lagos. Naturally, their gathering had no purpose and was ineffective.
