Osinbajo oversee FEC meeting
The Federal Executive Council meeting is being presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa at Abuja for the second time in a row.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, led opening prayers before the meeting got underway at 10:03 a.m.
Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the government of the federation, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the president's chief of staff, and Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the head of the federation's civil service, are all in attendance.
The ministers of the interior (Rauf Aregbesola), works and housing (Babatunde Fashola), science and technology (Olorunimbe Mamora), finance (Zainab Ahmed), agriculture (Mohammed Abubakar), health (Dr. Osagie Ehanire), information (Lai Mohammed), and sports (Sunday Dare) are also in attendance.
Others are ministers of State for Mines and Steel, Health, Trade and Investment, amongst others.
Meanwhile, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is expected back to Abuja later today.
While on an eight-day business trip to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, Buhari did the Umrah and met with Mahamat Deby-Itno, his counterpart from the Republic of Chad.
Additionally, he went to Madinah's International Fair and Museum of the Prophet's Biography. There, he advocated for a fair understanding of Islam that dispelled misconceptions about the 4,000-year-old religion.
It is his fifth trip abroad in 2023 and his final journey to the Kingdom while serving as president.
