OYO STATE: Governor Seyi Makinde declares half-day holiday on Friday

Prior to the polls on Saturday, March 16, 2023, the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, announced on Thursday a half-day holiday for state employees.

The step became necessary, according to a circular approved by the state government's secretary, Olubanwo Adeosun, in order to allow civil and public officials in the state who might want to go to vote in the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections on Saturday, March 18, to do so.

As stated in a statement by the governor's chief press secretary, Taiwo Adisa, only employees handling vital tasks were expected to continue working beyond 12 PM.

This approval of a half-day at work will give public and civil officials who might want to travel to fulfill their civic duties the chance to do so, according to the circular.

"In light of the foregoing, government offices are to close by noon on Friday, March 17, 2023, with workers responsible for providing critical services expected to stay on the job.

"Public and government servants in the state are encouraged to go out on Saturday, March 18, 2023, to do their civic duties," the message continued.
