Police deliberately kill civilians because "there's nothing like an accidental firing," Lagos CP
Idowu Owohunwa, the new police commissioner in Lagos, has blasted security personnel's claims of "accidental firing" as a deception and insisted that they deliberately kill defenseless individuals.
As part of his tour to familiarize himself with all the police formations in the command, Mr. Owohunwa made this statement on Wednesday while visiting various area commands.
The commissioner asked the police officers to conduct themselves professionally while visiting Area G Ogba and Area F Ikeja, where he spoke to all of the DPOs in the areas.
I won't accept a "accidental discharge" from one of my officers. There is no such thing as a "accidental discharge," hence it must not occur. The same person who cocked the rifle also fired, according to Mr. Owohunwa. "You describe it as an accident discharge? I won't take it, no. In this directive, there will be no exceptions for "accidental discharge."
The police chief in Lagos asked the area commanders and DPOs to give him a list of all the trouble sites in their jurisdictions as well as information on how they are dealt with.
The issues in their regions and divisions were another thing he asked the officers to discuss with him.
Additionally, Mr. Owohunwa went to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, where he spoke with Abdulrasaq Balogun, the executive secretary, and asked for ongoing help.
The police and other security services in Lagos would always receive support from the fund, according to Mr. Balogun. He continued by saying that they had been collaborating with all of the state's police commissioners.
The LSTF director emphasized that the fund was created to protect people and property in Lagos.
On Tuesday, Mr. Owohunwa replaced acting AIG in charge of Zone 2 Abiodun Alabi as the head of the police command in Lagos.
In his remarks, Mr. Owohunwa promised to get started right away and pay unannounced visits to numerous police formations.
