Police-- Over a N1.7 million debt, a missing Ogun banker staged his kidnapping.

This was verified to our correspondent on Tuesday by SP Omolola Odutola, the state police command spokeswoman.

Journalists were informed by Temitope, the banker's wife, about her husband Olumide's disappearance on January 17 when he was traveling to work.

But Temitope had informed our correspondent on Thursday that her husband had been located in Mokwa, Niger State: "I am happy to tell you that my husband has been found." Tuesday afternoon, he gave me a call.

One of the locals there gave him the phone, saying that the people who kidnapped him had already taken it. The policeman on duty who spoke with us later said he was in Mokwa. We then instructed him to file a report at the local police station.

"After that, arrangements were made for him to receive transportation funds, and on Wednesday he arrived in Ibadan, where he spent the night with his family. Today, he will return to Abeokuta.

Nonetheless, the authorities have called the banker's alleged kidnapping a hoax.

"Yes, the police have found out that the banker, Olumide Openaike, faked his abduction over N1.7m debt," Odutola stated, confirming the occurrence to our correspondent. The bank where he works owns the money.

The money was being sent to the bank by a customer, but Openaike was using it for personal expenses. He said he then chose to stage his kidnapping after becoming sad. The cops have already taken him into custody.
