Speaker of Anambra loses reelection in 2023 assembly election.

Results from the recently completed state House of Assembly elections in Anambra State are beginning to trickle in at the various local government offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Uchenna Okafor, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, was defeated in his bid for a third term by Abuchi Bernard Udemezue, the PDP candidate for the Ayamelum State Constituency.

Prof. George Onwudiwe, the election's returning officer, reported that the PDP candidate received 12,993 votes, defeating Okafor, who stood on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, with 11,445 votes.

Similar to this, Paul Obu of the Labour Party defeated Emeka Aforka of the APGA in his bid for reelection to a second term as the state House of Assembly's deputy majority leader in Orumba North. Aforka received 7,675 votes, while Obu received 10,212.

Also, Chimezie Ikwunne of the APGA defeated John Nwokoye, a PDP candidate and member representing Awka North.

According to the results released by Dr. Martina Egenti, the INEC Returning Officer for the constituency, Ikwunne received 7,199 votes, defeating Nwokoye's 6,110 votes.

In a similar vein, Ms. Nkechi Ogbuefi of the Labour Party won Anaocha 1 over incumbent PDP candidate and incumbent member Ebele Ejimofor, who was running for a third term, while Ejike Okechukwu of the APGA kept his position in Anaocha 2.
According to the results announced by INEC Returning Officer Dr. Gideon Ezu, Douglas Egbuna of the PDP kept his seat as the representative for Onitsha North 1 by receiving 7,140 votes against Chukwunenye Azuka of the LP, who received 7,135 votes.

According to the results announced by Prof. Alvan-Ikoku Nwamara, the INEC regional officer for the Dunukofia seat, Jude Azotani, the APGA's candidate, received 7,488 votes to defeat Achike Onuah, the PDP candidate, who received 4,333 votes.

According to the preliminary results, the APGA received around 17 seats, the LP eight, the YPP three, and the PDP two.
