SPORT: Obasogie joins Eagles camp
Amas Obasogie, the goalkeeper for Bendel Insurance, was ecstatic to be called up to the Super Eagles for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. He was looking forward to growing as a player on his first call-up.
On Monday, after Udinese goalie Maduka Okoye withdrew from the games, coach Jose Peseiro gave Obasogie a late call-up.
With God's help, I can confirm that, on Monday evening, our team secretary informed me of the news. Obasogie told our correspondent, "He told me I've been lucky to get called to the Super Eagles, and I was very excited instantly."
Along with the rest of the team, the Bendel Insurance goalie started training on Tuesday, expressing his excitement for his time on the national team.
"I am excited to learn a lot from everyone in the team when we resume camp tomorrow," Obasogie stated.
Obasogie played a key role in Bendel Insurance's victory in the Federation Cup and their league-leading 21-game winning streak in the previous season.
With the same intensity, he has opened the new season with six clean sheets in seven games and just one goal conceded. The 23-year-old has received support from Bendel Insurance, teammates, and supporters to be a good representative of the NPFL in camp.
