The Senate will vote on a N2.18 trillion supplementary budget on Thursday.

Tinubu's appeal, which was read aloud in the Senate during plenary on Tuesday, was given prompt consideration.

The bill's budgetary provisions were considered, passed for a second reading, and the Committee on Appropriations was charged with interacting with the heads of concerned agencies for defense on the ideas made.

The committee, chaired by Senator Solomon Adeola of the All Progressives Congress, Ogun West, met with the heads of the seven affected agencies until late Wednesday night and informed journalists that the reports on the supplementary budgetary proposals would be submitted to the Senate for final consideration and passage on Thursday.

"As mandated by the Senate on the strength of President Bola Tinubu's request, the Appropriations Committee met with heads of the affected seven agencies, and supplementary budget proposals were provided for," Adeola stated.

"The heads of each of the agencies have defended proposals made for them by the President and convinced the committee on the need for the Senate and, by extension, the National Assembly to approve the N2.17tn 2023 supplementary budget." "The committee has carried out the assignment given in line with the urgency required, on the basis of which reports for final consideration and passage of the bill, will be submitted to the Senate today (Thursday)."

According to the PUNCH, at the committee's interface with the heads of the affected agencies on Wednesday, the Minister of Housing, Ahmed Dangiwa, defended the N100 billion budgeted for the Federal Ministry of Housing in the supplementary budget, which he said would be spent on the construction of housing estates across the country.

In his presentation, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike justified the N100 billion granted in the supplementary budget for the Federal Capital Territory, N22 billion of which was intended for metro rail completion.

Wike assured the committee members that all abandoned structures in the FCT will be demolished so that they would not serve as hideouts for criminals from neighboring states.

Other ministers who testified before the committee were the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who defended his over N400 billion budget; the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawale; and service chiefs.
