Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (rtd), a former chief of the air staff (CAS), claims he is vying for governor of Bauchi State in an effort to give back and aid in the rehabilitation of the state.

Mr. Abubakar, the All Progressive Congress's (APC's) nominee for governor in Bauchi, said on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily that he has served Nigeria admirably for about 42 years and believes that same quality must be replicated.

The former CAS claimed that after years of managing Nigeria's internal security crises, he realized that the troubles would persist unless the underlying causes were addressed. For this reason, he was going back to the source to help resolve the issues once and for all.

"People frequently overlook the sociopolitical and economic aspects of security, even though these aspects are mostly managed at the state and local government levels, which is also where the problems that ultimately lead to concerns with internal security are created.

Since I oversaw the internal security crisis for roughly five and a half years as Chief of Air Staff, he explained, "my people were coming to me after my service to come and be part of those who will solve these issues so that those coming behind me will not have to face the difficulty of having to manage the crisis."

Speaking further about his political aspirations, Mr. Abubakar stated that he had come to improve the quality of people's lives and to help the state grow.

He believes that military leaders are particularly well equipped for democratic positions because they receive instruction in topics other than warfare, such as how to manage potential conflicts.

The former CAS claimed to have a thorough awareness of the issues faced by the people of Bauchi and a plethora of expertise that will be useful in restoring the state to its proper state.
