Messi will auction off his 2022 World Cup jerseys

Sotheby's revealed on Monday that a set of six jerseys worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina's winning 2022 World Cup campaign will be up for auction in December. The jerseys are estimated to be worth $10 million.

In addition to games against Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia, and France in the final, the football player wore these shirts throughout the opening halves of the group stage matches against Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

After Argentina had lost four World Cups in a row against England, their triumphant run in Qatar last year was the last notch on the forward's resume.

According to Sotheby's, if the jerseys do end up selling for more than $10 million, this could be the most valuable sports memorabilia auction ever.

During his 1998 NBA Finals run with the Chicago Bulls, basketball icon Michael Jordan wore the most expensive individual jersey ever sold at auction.

$10.1 million was the sale price last year. Sports memorabilia is a developing market that auction houses have noticed more and more in recent years.
US tech startup AC Momento, which assists athletes in managing memorabilia collections, is bringing the shirts to auction.

A portion of the sales will go to support children with rare diseases through the UNICAS Project, an initiative in partnership with a children's hospital in Barcelona.

When the jerseys go up for sale, from November 30 to December 14, the public can view them for free.
