Minister of Education: FG intends to raise financing for education by 25%.

The Nigerian Minister of Education, Mamman, has emphasized the need for the implementation of the Education 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Nigeria. He emphasized the need to bridge the gaps between education policy statements and actualisation outcomes, stating that Nigeria's policies are not producing the values needed for the sector. Mamman urged Nigerians to be empowered and provided opportunities for them to develop appropriate skills templates for creativity and research. He also called for implementation strategies to provide mechanisms for constant monitoring and evaluation of policies to ensure the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, David Adejo, urged stakeholders to collaborate and partner towards actualising the 2030 education agenda. The Education Adviser, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), James O’Donoghue, pledged the UK's commitment to support Nigeria in actualizing the 2030 SDG agenda and ensuring every child receives quality education.

The UN suggested that Nigeria increase its current budgetary allocation to the education sector from seven to 20% to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 4—universal, inclusive and equitable basic education for all school-age children by 2030. In the 2023 budget, the sector received ₦1.79 trillion, representing 8.2% of the appropriation bill. The education sector received the second largest allocation in the budget after defence and security sectors, accounting for 13.4% of the budget.

UNESCO recommended that member nations should earmark 4 to 6% of their GDP or 15 to 20 of public expenditure (annual budget) to fund education, but the majority of countries have not yet reached this threshold.
