New military officials promise to uphold human rights and put an end to insecurity
The recently chosen military chiefs have vowed to uphold human rights while carrying out their constitutional duties.
This is in keeping with their vow to free the nation of the threat of instability.
When other service chiefs visited the Ministry of Defense in Abuja on Monday, Major General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, spoke on their behalf.
Musa promised that the Armed forces under his command will carry out their tasks in a professional manner while respecting human rights. He pleaded with the populace to claim the armed forces as their own.
The armed forces are for you, and we will do all it takes to make sure Nigeria prospers, Musa told the civilians.
"We are dedicated to completing the task at hand. We will uphold human rights while doing this. We pledge to conduct ourselves with the utmost professionalism. We want to reassure you all that we are present and committed to making sure we carry out the president's directive.
Musa also vowed to bring about peace that children would be proud of along with the service leaders.
We want Nigeria to be a peaceful country, he remarked. We want to make sure that our children would be proud of the country during our time since we grew up in a peaceful time in Nigeria.
The foundation of Octagon was approved by the previous administration as part of efforts to restructure the military, according to Ibrahim Kana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.
According to Kana, "The MOD has devised actions to engage with the new government's concerns, particularly the reform of the armed forces, which the previous administration accepted and we have started implementing.
"One of them is the founding of the Octagon; as you may know, the Pentagon exists in America. When our leaders in Nigeria came together, they decided on the "Octagon" model, in which the military and civilians collaborate to ensure the nation's security.
He added that the military would assist the federal government in fostering economic expansion.
We are dedicated to Nigeria's deep blue services, Kana declared. Water surrounds Nigeria on all sides. Some nations are very reliant on the blue economy, which is untapped. We are determined to support the government as a result.
