On the 13th anniversary, Tinubu honors Yar'Adua's memory.
In remembrance of the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's passing 13 years ago, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has paid respect to him.
As he prepared to take over as president on May 29, Tinubu referred to the late president as a "brother and friend" and said, "As I prepare to take the reins of this country on May 29, I am determined to follow the good examples set by leaders like Mallam Umaru Yar'Adua who showcased exceptional sense of propriety and selfless service to our dear country. Lie down, my beloved brother. May your soul remain at harmony with its Creator. The President-elect paid a glowing tribute to the late leader on Friday in a statement headlined "We'll Never Forget You" that was made public in Abuja by his media office.
He said, "Today, as always, I remember the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, who passed away on this day 13 years ago, my beloved friend and brother in the struggle for democracy and good government in Nigeria. Although May 5, 2010, may have passed, the pain is still raw for some of us. "As a friend and political associate, I cherish the fond memories of honesty, steadfastness, patriotism, and excellence in public service left behind by the late Yar'Adua, both as governor of Katsina State (1999 to 2007) and president of Nigeria(2007 to 2010)."
After being sick for some time, the late president passed away on May 5, 2010, while still in office. He held office from 2007 until 2010.
After Olusegun Obasanjo's two terms as president were up, the northern politician took over. After Yar'Adua passed away, Goodluck Jonathan, his deputy, ascended to the saddle to finish the remaining four years.
