Bola Tinubu, the new president-elect, and Kashim Shettima, the new vice president-elect, will receive their certificates of return on Wednesday, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the electoral umpire reportedly proclaimed Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, as the winner.
In the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, received 8,794,726 votes, making him the winner.
At the International Collation Center in Abuja, Tinubu's victory was declared by INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
"That Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC, having satisfied the conditions of the law is now proclaimed the winner and returned elected," the INEC chief said in announcing Tinubu as the winner. Tinubu triumphed against rival candidates Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party. The top three presidential candidates won in 12 states each while Kwankwaso claimed only Kano State. Tinubu was declared the winner, and Yakubu added that the commission would be handing Shettima and Tinubu their certificates of return at the International Collation Center in Abuja. The measure, he added, will allow the commission to have the time to effectively plan for the governorship election set for March11
He stated that although Tinubu and Shettima will be receiving their CoR, senators and members-elect of the House of Representatives would need to wait a little longer.
