Tinubu inherits nearly N16tn incomplete projects.
Bola Tinubu, Nigeria's new President, has officially inherited approximately N16.29 trillion in unfinished projects from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
The projects were selected using the EYEMARK national monitoring and assessment platform, which Buhari introduced in December of last year. The former President stated that the Federal Government could no longer rely on a small number of monitoring and evaluation teams to manage the overwhelming majority of infrastructure projects scattered around the country.
He stated that considering that his regime had invested more in infrastructure projects than any previous, it was only natural to offer enough avenues for citizen scrutiny.
He stated that this will close current gaps and encourage citizen participation in governance.
The former president remarked of EYEMARK, "The status of projects, the total amount appropriated and dispensed so far are now available in the public space."
According to the national monitoring and assessment portal EYEMARK, around 33 projects remained unfinished. One such project is the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which is estimated to cost N315 billion. This 126.6-kilometer road is estimated to be 85 percent finished. The Federal Government has once again postponed the launch of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claiming that the previously declared April 30 deadline is no longer viable.
Former Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, who dropped the clue, said the development was owing to excessive traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway from the toll gate to the Kara Bridge portion.
According to the EYEMARK app, the contractors in charge of this project are Julius Berger Nigeria Pls and RCC.
Another project is the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is expected to cost around N200 billion. Julius Berger is responsible for a 37.9km road that is 75% complete.
Fashola recently stated that work on the Bodo-Bonny Road will be completed in December 2023, even as he praised the project's ongoing development, with or without Buhari in government.
