Two robbery suspects are detained by Anambra police on the Second Niger Bridge.
On the Second Niger Bridge, Anambra State Police Command agents detained two suspects in armed robberies who specialize in robbing people of their goods.
The arrest was made on Sunday by police officers assigned to Harbour Division who were on a surveillance patrol on the bridge, according to a statement released on Monday by the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga.
He said that the surveillance patrol team was posted on the bridge to stop expansion joints from being stolen from it.
"The gang's activities near the Obosi end of the bridge were reported to the police team that was on surveillance patrol on the bridge to stop thieves from stealing expansion joints.
"The Covert Police Team monitored the group and swooped down on them, detaining two of the gangsters while others fled.The suspects, who were between the ages of 20 and 22, were searched, and five sim cards taken from previously stolen phones were found on them.
Ikenga stated that "one of the suspects was from Ebonyi State and the other from Enugu State."
He continued by saying that CP Aderemi Adeoye, the commissioner of police, praised the patrol squad for its vigilanteness and bravery in taking on the group.
"The CP has directed that owners of the recovered sim cards be located to assemble evidence for the successful prosecution of the arrested suspects," he continued.
