Why I’ve been mute about 2023 election —Burna Boy

Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning afrobeats artist Damini Ogulu, has explained to his followers why he stayed silent throughout the 2023 election.

Burna is proud of his many politically charged songs, such as 20.10.20, in which he criticized the government for its handling of the #EndSARS protests and the Lekki Massacre.

Nevertheless, many of his supporters have voiced their displeasure with his decision to remain mute at these crucial times.

On Monday, the Ye singer sent a message to his Instagram page informing followers that he does not support any of the political candidates.

He added that he had declined to support any party or candidate because he did not believe they could be relied upon to keep their campaign pledges.

“I don’t know why it’s such a big deal to some Nigerians that I’ve not been vocal about the elections,” he wrote on his Instagram stories.

“Personally I don’t have a candidate that I believe in. I’ve never supported any political party or candidate in my life because I don’t want to make you vote and then blame me when the person f**ks up as usual. That being said, I hope all votes count and the best man wins.”

With reports of electoral malpractices being levelled against the Independent National Electoral Commission from various quarters, Burna had earlier called on the organisation to ensure the people’s votes were properly counted.

“Let Nigeria decide o! #inecnigeria. No try any result magic,” he wrote via his Instagram page
