Bride killed by drunk driver shortly after marriage
Authorities revealed on Monday that Samantha Miller, a newlywed bride, was murdered by a drunk motorist who drove into the couple's golf cart on a South Carolina beach.
The groom, who is in serious condition in the hospital, three other passengers in the golf cart, as well as the 34-year-old who had just gotten married hours earlier, were hurt in the collision, according to the Charleston County coroner's office.
According to The Guardian, the mother of the groom has set up a GoFundMe page to cover both her son's hospital expenses and the funeral expenses of her daughter-in-law.
It featured a picture of the newlyweds sprinting beneath sparklers moments before the collision that turned the golf cart over multiple times.
Around 10 p.m. on Friday on Folly Beach, data from the suspect's rental car showed Jamie Lee Komoroski was traveling at 65 mph (105 km/h) and only momentarily applied the brakes before colliding with the golf cart, according to investigators.
The golf cart has lights and can be driven at night, according to Gilreath.
On the island close to Charleston, the posted speed limit is 25 mph (40 km/h).
Komoroski, 25, was charged with three charges of DWI causing death and three counts of reckless vehicular homicide. On each count, she could spend up to 25 years in prison.
Records did not mention whether the suspect has a lawyer and she was still being held in the Charleston County jail as of Monday afternoon.
