Footballer Osimhen makes history, hands Napoli a Serie A title after 33 years drought.
Victor Osimhen made history on Thursday night, May 4, powering Napoli to win a Serie A title after 33 years.
The Partenopei claimed the title after playing out a 1-1 draw with Udinese at the Dacia Arena. Osimhen scored the decisive goal in the second half. The 24-year-old has so far scored 22 goals and provided four assists in 27 league games this season. The striker is now in contention to become the first African to win the Golden Boot in the Italian top-flight. The Nigeria international now holds the record for the most goals in a Serie A season by an African player after erasing Samuel Eto’o’s old mark. Osimhen is also now the joint highest African goalscorer ever in Serie A with 46 goals. He shares the record with former AC Milan forward George Weah. Napoli’s Thursday win saw an end to a 33-year title drought, thanks to Osimhen’s title-winning strike which powered the team to glory, one that was last won in 1990.
